KUALA LUMPUR – In revealing himself to be the man in a sexual harassment police report, Sedili assemblyman and Kota Tinggi Bersatu chief Rasman Ithnain has denied the allegations, calling it a political conspiracy.
He said he will give his full cooperation during the investigation but is looking into taking legal action.
“I have discussed with my lawyers about taking legal action against any individual trying to tarnish my name and image,” he said in a statement last night.
He added that this conspiracy will not get in the way of his responsibilities as an elected representative.
Yesterday, Malay Mail reported that a 26-year-old businesswoman lodged a police report accusing Rasman of molest and sexual harassment, alleging that he did so in at least four separate incidents this year.
The news site also reported that the accuser is a committee member of the Kota Tinggi Bersatu Srikandi division.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Hussin Zamora told Bernama that the 26-year-old woman lodged the report at the Kota Tinggi police station around 11.30am yesterday.
“Yes, we have received (a report). The case is being investigated.”
Rasman was among the three state lawmakers to quit Umno and join Bersatu in 2018, as part of the then Pakatan Harapan coalition. The other two are Johor Lama assemblyman Rosleli Jahari and Endau’s Alwiyah Talib. – The Vibes, January 18, 2022
