Scientists in Cyprus claim to have discovered the latest variant of Covid-19, named Deltacron.
According to a Bloomberg report, University of Cyprus Professor of Biological Sciences, Leondios Kostrikis said, a total of 25 cases have been detected so far related to the variant which is a combination of Delta and Omicron variants.
Kostrikis said there is currently a joint infection of Omicron and Delta and he found it to be a combination of the two variants.
"The discovery was named 'Deltacron' because of the identification of genetic markers such as Omicron in the Delta genome," he said.
According to him, scientists are studying the variant to see if it is more contagious than the existing variant.
