KUALA LUMPUR – Some netizens have panned a group supporting Datuk Seri Najib Razak for allegedly deceiving flood victims into attending a solidarity gathering for the former prime minister.
The netizens claimed that residents from Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam were duped into attending the event at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday, held on the pretext of aid distribution.
However, when the victims arrived, they were purportedly made to hold placards showing support for Najib, who is facing a string of graft charges.
One netizen, who goes by the name NS and carries the handle @nasyrulsyami shared the image of a flyer of an invitation to the event. It was apparently organised by a group calling itself Persatuan Sahabat Ulul Amr, and the invitation was extended by the Taman Sri Muda Small Traders and Businesses Association.
Ada parents share benda ni kat group sekolah. Ramai pergi kononnya akan ada bantuan banjir. Sekali kena laung selamatkan najib. Gila. Kesian mangsa2 banjir tu 😣 https://t.co/pup8gWuukz pic.twitter.com/afeGTzlqqK

The invite called for the victims to attend the flood relief event at 10am, with transportation provided.
“There were some parents who shared this in my school’s (chat) group. Many went seemingly because there was flood aid,” NS said.
“But then they were made to chant ‘save Najib’. Crazy. I feel sorry for the flood victims.”
The user was responding to a post by a pro-Najib Twitter profile called mahazalimreturn, which shared images of some elderly citizens holding the placards, one of which said “Stop The Persecution of Najib”.
The protest also made calls for the arrest of former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, seemingly over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, instead. – The Vibes, January 24, 2022
