Manchester United are seeking a deputy for director of football John Murtough.
Murtough, 49, was last year appointed football director for the Red Devils, having previously served as the club's head of football development. Darren Fletcher was also promoted to a technical director position.
The Athletic says the football director needs assistance in order to carry out his role and United are consequently on the lookout for a deputy to work under Murtough.
The report claims that many departments and people report to Murtough, and as a result his workload has become too much for a single person to carry out and he needs support.
United are already believed to be at interview stage for the vacancy, and the new appointment will undertake a similar role to that of Julian Ward at Liverpool and David Weir at Brighton, who have served under Michael Edwards and Dan Ashworth respectively.
