Kota Kinabalu: The National Autism Society of Malaysia (Nasom) will be organising a series of events in Sabah next month leading up to Autism Awareness Month in April.
This includes screening and diagnosis for children aged three to seven as well as a three-day autism workshop from March 18 to 20 at a cost of RM150 per participant and a free talk on “Autism Awareness and Acceptance” on March 20.
Nasom Chairman Julian Wong said he was glad that the event would finally come to fruition after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The data updated in October 2021 by the Ministry of Education reveals that the number of persons with autism registered in Sabah is 16,619.
“As Nasom is a national organisation, it is bringing the event to Sabah due to the limited resources and the need to raise awareness in the State.
“This event in Kota Kinabalu is made possible with sponsorships from both Mary Kay (airfare) and Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu (meeting space as well as accommodations for the Nasom staff),” he said in a statement, while extending gratitude to the sponsors.
