Do You Want to Help? What Can You Do?
Stop whining. Let’s put our heads together and think seriously about what we should be doing to save Malaysia.
It will take us 60 years from now, 2022 to change Malaysia for the better. Hopefully, by 2082 our great-grandchildren shall be able to clean up the country and once again hold their heads high in the eyes of the world.
An Actuarist asserted that “Assuming one generation is 30 years we can reverse the current trend over the next two in 60 years!”
What does reversing the current trend mean?
I suppose it took two generations for the ruling party to be what it is today. From a grand old party (Parti Keramat as UMNO die-hards called it!) to a party of Kleptokrat.
We have to remove the kleptocrats and replace them with more enlightened democrats that will move Malaysia forward into a new golden era of an egalitarian, tolerant, progressive and prosperous state.
My Actuarist friend continued, “UMNO is what it is after they ruled instead of governing our nation over the last 58 years”.
The rot that we are in now will take 60 years and the effort of the next two generations to clean up the mess we are in now. Perhaps after sixty years our status as “No 1 Corrupt Nation” will be reversed.
The Actuaries went on “But (for you and me in the 70s ) we may not be around when the changes take place. Our children who are in their 40s will have to take the responsibility (to start this process). If I were to believe what I have been reading our children’s generation will not have enough time to reverse the trend but if they start now their children can continue the crusade!”
I like the word crusade, implying a vigorous campaign for political, social, or religious change. That is what is needed. A total vigorous revamp in politics, economic and social elements within our society.
The Actuaries looked up from his calculator and said, “In my estimation, our great-grandchildren would have the golden era again if we start the ball rolling now (in 2022). But we need champions of the cause to propagate the battle cry and create more awareness”.
To whom shall we appeal to raise this battle cry? Whom do we entice to champion this noble cause? But most of all who would have enough guts to face the “warlords” that have a stranglehold on this nation?
Most Malaysians complain, whine or “b*tch” because it is in our nature to do so or crack jokes about our politicians and inept government servants but when called upon to participate in the political change process they will quickly shrivel.
Only those opportunists who consider politics as an avenue to get financial rewards or as a chance to assume positions of power and influence with minimal costs become members of political parties. Most do so for personal gains and not to serve the nation. These are the people who will stand in the way of the crusaders trying to change Malaysia and make it a better nation. However, would those in the UMNO heartland see eye to eye with these young crusaders?
This is where our Actuarist friend ended his musing with “Sadly however the rural population may not agree with our views. They see the present generation of politicians as their saviour because they do not want to know where the handouts given by the politicians are coming from”.
Hopefully, Undi 18 may help mobilise the youth to return to their kampung and campaign as hard as their brethren did in the last GE to help convince the simple folks that they would have to change their views about the warlords that roam the countryside using them as an excuse to stay in office.
It is a long hard road to make this country better than what it is today. But we have to begin now. Sixty years is a long long time!
