Kota Kinabalu: Sabah started their Youth Cup campaign in the new season with a goalless draw against PDRM in a Group C match held at Sime Darby FC Training Ground on Wednesday.
Head coach Johnny Dominicus when contacted after the match was pleased with the one point earned by his under strength side.
“I must say the draw was a fair result for both teams. We both had our chances but were unable to execute them effectively.
“Our players played well under the circumstances. They looked nervous in the opening 20 minutes which was understandable as many of them played for the very first time in this stage.
“Apart from that, there are still areas that need to be improved and hopefully we can rectify them before our next home match against Kuching FC at Penampang Stadium on March 4,” he said.
Johnny was unable to put out his best team for the match with nine of the players unavailable in order to attend the ongoing SPM examinations.
A few of the players who had only just rejoined the team after completing their STPM examinations were also unfit due to the 10-day layoff.
Meanwhile, the State Under-21 side will be taking on Sri Pahang FC in the President Cup season opener at Penampang Stadium this afternoon (Friday) starting at 4.15pm.
The team under Jelius Ating as head coach this season are drawn in Group C with Sri Pahang FC, UiTM FC, Kuala Lumpur FC, Sarawak United FC and Kuching City FC.
