PITAS: The Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Department evacuated five flash flood victims from Kg Tombilidon to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pitas 2 Temporary Evacuation Centre, near here, Sunday.

As of 3pm, three villages, Kg Rukom Ulu, Saab, and Kg Tambilidon, were impacted by flash floods, according to Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Rony Sikawan.

After getting an emergency call from MERS999 at 10.39am, Rony and five members of the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station hurried to the affected location, which was 53 kilometres away.

As of 3pm, the rescue crew was still at the flood site, attempting to evacuate the victims.

Residents in flood-prone locations should always be prepared to leave or evacuate sooner if the water level rises and there are indicators of flooding, according to Rony.
