PAPAR: Two men were fined a total of RM4,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here for defying the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) last year.

Angajon Suleiman, 48, and Emar Suhie pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to crossing the district without a permit at 10.47am on July 18, 2021 and at 5.15pm, on May 26, 2021, respectively along Jalan Lama Papar-Kota Kinabalu.

Angajon was fined RM3,500 or two months jail while Emar was fined RM1,000 or two months jail.

They had committed an offence under Rule 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Rules 2021.

Angajon, who was not represented, requested for leniency on the grounds that he has a family to support.

He also told the court that he was not aware that Kinarut was under Papar district.

He said he only did odd jobs and tried to save money to pay the compound but could not do so.

Health prosecuting officer U Kelvindiran applied for an appropriate sentence as a lesson to Angajon and the public adding that his action was in defiance of government’s directive to break the Covid-19 chain.

It was a compoundable offence but Angajon failed to pay it, added Kelvindiran.

Emar, who was unrepresented, requested for leniency, saying that he has no permanent job and has to support his wife and two children.

Health prosecuting officer John Raynold Achon applied for an adequate sentence as a lesson to Emar and the public to always adhere to the established SOPs. Angajon failed to pay the fine while Emar paid his fine.
