If you ever heard of Jho Low, which I’m pretty sure you had, you must have already known that this so-called entrepreneur likes to splash millions of dollars on lavish parties. When I said lavish, I meant a star-studded level of lavish. Imagine mingling with insanely famous people such as Kim Kardashian, Miranda Kerr, Paris Hilton, Megan Fox, and Leonardo DiCaprio. With zero concerns about the bar tap, or any bills at all, everything was sponsored by Jho Low. Well, so they thought.

The A-list celebrities and the attendees of Jho Low lavish parties of course did not know that the money that he was spending like there was no tomorrow is not even his. It is from the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund. Asides from his many crazy spending, the amount that he paid just for A-list celebrities to accompany him for parties had made quite a headline worldwide. He reportedly spent US$250,000 which is RM1.05 million each on Megan Fox and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Alex Cohen, Strategic Group’s chief financial officer, revealed the data during a court hearing in the Brooklyn borough of New York. Strategic Group is an entertainment and marketing firm that organized parties for Jho Low to the point where Cohen testified in court that Low’s parties accounted for at least 25% of Strategic Group’s income in 2012. According to Cohen, the business was paid $5,000 for “model wrangling,” or obtaining ladies to attend parties, for one event.

The jury was reportedly given invoices totalling nearly US$3.6 million from a Las Vegas party allegedly organized by Low, of which US$100,000 was spent on 65 bottles of Cristal champagne and a US$38,955 tip, according to the newspaper. Jho Low was indicted in the United States in 2018. Neither the US nor Malaysian police has arrested the alleged scheme’s mastermind.
