Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard knows they face a major test against Brighton.

Gerrard acknowledged what the Seagulls have achieved so far this season.

“They have had a terrific season, they have fantastic players and they are coached extremely well," he said.

"A good strong win against Brighton changes the mood. It changes the noise outside. If we win we move to the middle of the table. This team hasn't finished above tenth in the Premier League in the last ten years. That's still possible so for me its about remaining positive.

"I've got a lot of trust and belief in my players and we have identified the areas we need to improve and improve fast and that's what we have been working on."

On Villa's current struggles, Gerrard also said: “If we find a little bit of edge in the final third, which has been missing, I'm confident in my players.

“I watch them extremely closely on and off the pitch and they are desperate to change the recent results.

“I have a lot of trust and belief in my players. They have trained well and we want to change our form tomorrow."
