Kota Kinabalu: Dozens of children were given school bags in a Back-to-School programme at Kg Warisan in the Darau constituency here, Sunday (Feb 20).
This is part of a programme organised by the Kg Warisan village community development and security committee.
Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Yakub Khan said such efforts could help ease the burden of parents whose income had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I urge other village community leaders to also emulate these initiatives and to help those within their communities where possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yakub reminded political leaders to practise mature politics as political stability, the economy as well as national security are interconnected.
“There is a time for everything. The general election is once in five years so we can’t be spending the whole five years campaigning,” he said.
Yakub said people from in and out of the country, including investors, are observing the political situation in the country and if there were political instability, they would start to have doubts on investing.
“Our country is a strategic location for economic growth and investments but if there were political instability, investors would start looking at other countries to invest in,” he said.
He said this could be seen from last year where many investors started to pull out and put their money in other countries.
“So if this continues, jobs and incomes of many would be affected,” he said.
