RM3.91m loss in Sandakan fires last year

SANDAKAN: The District Fire and Rescue Station recorded an estimated loss of RM3.91 million due to fires, last year.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department Chief Martin Thomas also said the estimated salvaged value was RM157.42 million.

As for 2020, the Department recorded an estimated fire loss of RM12.1 million and the salvaged amount was RM3.86 million.

Martin also said the Department received 117 fire emergency calls, last year – 11 building fire cases and 106 cases of property fire.

In 2020, he said, they received 234 calls – 53 building fire cases and 181 property fire cases.

“As for rescue calls, there were 401 cases and 796 special duty cases, last year,” he said.

“In 2020, we received 336 rescue calls and 188 special duty calls.”

He added, there were no casualty in fire cases, last year, while there were 13 casualties in rescue cases.

On fake calls, he said, they did not received any in 2020 and last year.

Meanwhile, he reminded the public to be cautious at all times to prevent fire.

“The public are also advised to contact the Department or other relevant agencies when they face emergencies,” he said.
