On 24th February 2022, The Star has reported that starting from 1st June, the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) will impose a two-hour parking limit in selected commercial areas within Subang Jaya that are under their jurisdiction.

Johary Anuar, the mayor of Subang Jaya, said that the plan was being finalized, and areas such as USJ 9, USJ, 10, SS19, Bandar Sunway, and Bandar Puteri Puchong are among those in the process of review.

According to Johary, this two-hour parking limit policy will be implemented to make the street-parking facility available to visitors in that area rather than having every single parking dominated by those who work there.

Private and commercial vehicles, motorists included, will not be allowed to park in the same area for more than two hours. Soon, Johary said that the MBSJ would introduce a new system to monitor vehicles that parked longer than two hours in the selected zones. Any drivers who went against the policy and parked their vehicles longer than the limited time will immediately be alerted to the enforcement officers by the monitoring system.

The rates for these zones will also be set to RM0.60 for half an hour and RM1.20 per hour. MBSJ’s public parking system will also move from physical parking coupons to e-coupons starting from 1st April. Among the mobile apps that you’re able to pay for your car park are Smart Selangor Parking, Flexi Parking, Jom Parking, as well as eWallets such as Boost and Touch n Go.

This decision by the mayor of Subang Jaya and the MBSJ has sparked some interesting comments from the netizens to question their decisions.

Among the comments are:

“So, those who work there park where?”

“Failed city plan and blame who working there to occupies the car park. Why don’t gov enforce a car park area with sufficient car park lot every time developers build a commercial area?”

“2 hrs where got enough for ladies to do hair, facial, chat over bubble teas?”

Many of the comments, especially those I’ve mentioned above, are the real concerns of implementing such policies on a large scale, for one, the shops operating in said areas, whether hair salons, restaurants, or any other entertainment industry, will be affected.

What do you think? Will this two-hour parking limit policy solve the current parking issues in the hot commercial areas? Or will the situation remain the same? Do you think MBSJ will make a U-TURN on such a statement should the netizens hate it? Let us know by commenting down below!
