Manchester United have lost their place in the Premier League top-four after a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.
The Red Devils were punished for not turning their first-half dominance into a solid lead as defensive mistakes once again cost them points.
Raphael Varane had a goal ruled out for offside despite being onside himself.
The Frenchman was denied his first goal for the club because Harry Maguire was offside before he blocked Jay Rodriguez's attempt to get back and defend.
Fortunately for United, Paul Pogba produced a moment of brilliance to beat Nick Pope after a sweet team move.
United had another goal disallowed before half-time after Pogba was deemed to have fouled Erik Pieters following a cross from Luke Shaw.
Pope also produced excellent saves to deny Varane, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani, who was starting in place of Cristiano Ronaldo.
All in all, the visitors entered the half-time break with 12 shots and were ultimately punished for converting only one of them into a goal.
Jay Rodriguez was the hero for Burnley after he ran onto Wout Weghorst's through-ball to score his 100th career league goal.
Maguire was arguably to blame for Weghorst being able to turn and run free in the build-up.
United captain Maguire could have atoned for his mistake in stoppage time but was unable to steer a header into the net.
The result leaves United one point behind fourth-placed West Ham, but they do possess a game in hand.
They will host Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday, while Burnley host Liverpool at Turf Moor on Sunday.
Speaking after the game, Maguire told BT Sport: "I think you saw the first half. We had control. We have got to win the game with the amount of chances we created. We had to get that second goal. Two points dropped.
"We wanted to dominate the game but for sure when you come to Burnley away you are not going to dominate for 90 minutes. We had to see iit out better. We conceded like against Middlesbrough when they had that spell of pressure. We have got to be that bit more clinical.
"It was a disappointing goal on our behalf to concede. We came out in the second half a bit sloppy. We had long enough in the game to come back from that and try and find the winner.
"We demand on ourselves to win the football match so it is disappointing."
