
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — The number of Covid-19 new infections jumped to 19,090 cases today from 17,134 reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative figure to 2,975, 422, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The last time Malaysia recorded new Covid-19 cases of above the 19,000 mark was on Sept 15 last year, with 19,495 cases.
Dr Noor Hisham, in an update via his Twitter account, said 99.41 per cent or 18,977 new cases were in categories one and two, while another 113 cases or 0.59 per cent were in categories three, four and five.
Categories one and two refer to Covid-19 patients with no or mild symptoms while category three is patients with pneumonia, category four needs oxygen assistance and category five requires respiratory assistance.
On the infectivity rate (Rt), Dr Noor Hisham said the country’s Rt was at 1.47 yesterday with Labuan recording the highest Rt of 1.94 followed by Sarawak (1.84), Sabah (1.73) and Perlis (1.67).
