JOHOR BAHRU: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Sabah and Johor tourism consortiums to declare collaboration in promoting tourism packages in the two states.
The MoU signing was part of a business-to-business (B2B) roadshow dubbed “My Destination Sabah and Labuan Meet Johor 2022” – a continued effort by Tourism Malaysia to assist Sabah and Labuan tourism industry players by connecting them to potential buyers in the Southern Region.
The roadshow aims to promote travel destinations, products and packages to about 80 representatives of travel agencies, government and private departments, as well as corporate companies targeted to participate in the programme.
A total of 18 travel agencies, seven hotels and three airlines were brought in from Sabah and Labuan to offer packages in the form of incentive visits, corporate family day programmes and business travel packages.
It was jointly organised with the Sabah Tourism Board (STB), Labuan Corporation, Sabah Tourism Association (STA), as well as Malaysia Airlines, MASwings and AirAsia Berhad.
Tourism Malaysia Domestic and Event Division Senior Director Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof said the programme is expected to catalyse the domestic tourism industry’s revival.
“Various attractive packages are offered to make Sabah and Labuan as tourist destinations of choice, apart from organising corporate events such as meetings, seminars, conferences and team building programmes that can encourage planned holidays in the new norm.
“Apart from focusing on B2B, tour operators from Sabah and Labuan also have the opportunity to carry out ‘cross-selling’ activities at several tourist locations in the Southern Region when taken on product tours around Johor and Melaka under the auspices of Tourism Johor and Tourism Melaka,”
He said this when officiating the programme at Fraser Place Puteri Harbour, here.
Also present were STB Marketing Manager Tracelynn Peter Jupili, Labuan Corporation’s Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts Assistant Director Zunaidah Hamzah, Sabah Tourism Association President Tonny Chew, Tourism Malaysia Sabah Deputy Director Trecey J Tojuka and Tourism Malaysia Southern Region Director Solehuddin Ahmad.
The Sabah tourism consortium is joined by Funholiday Tours & Travel Sdn Bhd, Travel4You Sdn Bhd, World Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, while the Johor tourism consortium was formed through a merger of JSG Holidays Sdn Bhd, Razi Rafi Explorer Travel & Tours and Executive Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd.
