Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick admits he was put straight by ref Paul Tierney during victory at Leeds yesterday.

Rangnick has revealed how Tierney fired back at his complaints over a foul on Bruno Fernandes during Manchester United's 4-2 win over Leeds.

After the match, Rangnick opened up on the response he received from Tierney after he quizzed the referee over a challenge on Fernandes in the build-up to Leeds' equaliser.

Rangnick said: "I spoke to the referee after the game about that tackle on Bruno before they scored the equaliser and I said, 'listen, in Germany, they wouldn't have even asked VAR' and the referee said to me, quite funnily, 'listen, this is probably why you had to come to England'."

Rangnick was proud of how his side weathered the storm, both figuratively and literally, in the second half.

"It was very intense," said the United chief. "If you were a neutral person, [it was] an entertaining football game, there were only very few moments where nothing happened on the pitch."
