Kota Kinabalu: Some 42 infants were tested positive on Sunday, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Overall, he said 606 unvaccinated children below age 11 have been tested positive, including the babies.
Sabah’s caseload dipped slightly to 5,007 with 63 per cent of cases being sporadic, while another education cluster was detected in Beluran, named Jalan Beluran Lama Cluster.
Masidi said the cluster stemmed from an 18-year-old male student at the SMK Beluran Hostel, who was tested positive during a symptomatic screening on Feb 17.
“Close contact screenings found another 34 positive, bringing the tally in this cluster to 35. All cases have been isolated for further treatment. Asymptomatic close contacts have also been instructed to quarantine,” he said.
He added that two clusters ended on Sunday, namely the Kayul Cluster in Kuala Punyu and Pandan-Pandan Cluster in Putatan. There are 41 active clusters in Sabah to date. Four deaths were recorded, one each in Ranau, Lahad Datu, Keningau and Beaufort.
On caseload, Kota Kinabalu continues to record four-digits with 1,265, followed by Penampang (719), Tuaran (466), Papar (398), Tawau (355), Sandakan (250), Kota Belud (214), Beaufort (185), Putatan (167), Keningau (161) and Kota Marudu (129).
“A total of 21 out of 27 districts in Sabah recorded a high number of sporadic infections. This is a sign that Sabah’s caseload will continue to be high in the coming days,” he said.
Masidi said the majority of cases are mild with 4,986 out of 5,007 cases being category one and two infections, which is 99.66 per cent of the caseload.
“Five cases are in category three, 13 in category four and three in category five,” he added.
Some 4,107 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 2,919 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 23,810 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 19, of which 17,842 were adults while 243 were teenagers and 6,085 were children.
As of Feb 19, some 2,412,458 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.26 per cent were adults, while 2,482,277 have gotten their first dose, of which 77.98 per cent were adults.
Masidi added that 338,377 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,256 have completed both doses, which is 73.56 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 25,503 children have received their first dose.
