KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 workplace cluster has been identified in Tenom, according to the State’s daily update, Sunday.

The cluster, Tolokoson Kem Dua, involves workers at the Sino Hydro Kem Dua Tolokoson.

“The index case is a 59-year-old foreign man who was detected through a symptomatic screening on Feb 19,” said the update.

Close contact screenings among his workmates found another 137 positive cases.

“All cases had been isolated and treated, and non-symptomatic close contacts were also ordered to be quarantined.”

Initial investigation found the infection started at a construction site. Currently, there are 42 active clusters in the State.

Meanwhile, Sabah registered 2,874 additional cases, Sunday, the first time below the 3,000 mark since Feb 10.

“The percentage of sporadic infection cases is still high with 58.8 per cent today (Sunday), and it is not certain whether the downward trend over the past few days can be sustained.

“Outstanding cases (late registration) are also still high and this will affect the number of daily cases reported every day until all the backlogs are cleared.”

The top five districts with the highest number of new cases are Kota Kinabalu with 775, Tuaran (324), Penampang (272), Putatan (210), and Tawau (160).
