Everton boss Frank Lampard is confident he can change things for the better.
The manager knows that it will take time for him to implement a new system with his squad and he has detailed the basic elements that he is keen to improve on an initial basis.
He remarked: "I looked at the club when there was an opportunity to come and take the job and the baseline stats, things around the club, and there is a reason why you are where you are in the table.
"It is not for me to analyse why, but when you look at the possession we were having, the territory we were having in games, the high intensity and how far you can keep it away from your goal and how high you can win it back up the pitch… if those things are down it is hard to win football matches.
"I want to come in and improve those things. That doesn't mean going from a team that is one of the more direct teams in the league to being this beautiful possession based team in two seconds.
"No, I just want us to pass the ball better to make us a better team. I want us to have more high intensity and to repeat that regularly to be a better team, so all those things will hopefully make the performances better and help us move up the table.
"That is just the basis of why I am here. I understand the situation and I understand that at times you want to dig in for results and all those things you can casually say that from the outside.
"We have to get every detail right, we have to implement as quickly as we can the things we feel can make us better and I have a belief in the squad. If I didn't believe I could come in and make those changes then it wouldn't have been the job for me.
"But I firmly believe it is and I will work as hard as I can with the players to find a way to help us stay up in this league, progress, play better and move up the table."
