Dan Ashworth is leaving his position as technical director at Brighton.
Ashworth had been given permission to speak to Newcastle about a similar role and Brighton have confirmed he is joining 'a Premier League rival', reports BBC Sport.
Ashworth has an impressive reputation in the game through his time with West Brom and the Football Association, and has helped build a structure at Brighton that is the envy of many in the Premier League.
Former Scotland international David Weir takes over from Ashworth on an interim basis with immediate effect.
Weir has been working at Brighton as loan manager.
