DEPUTY Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin is confident the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government can survive if all coalition parties and elected representatives work together to meet the needs of the people in the State.
He said despite the fact that the current administration is made up of nine coalition parties and is regarded unstable, there is no reason why this coalition cannot endure provided there is significant consensus among its members and elected representatives.
“The people have placed high trust and aspirations in the current government; therefore, we must appreciate that trust by working hard to develop Sabah and forgetting all differences in order to achieve the well-being and welfare of the people,” he said, at the Kudat Golf and Marina Resort, where he was officiating the Backbenchers Retreat Programme.
Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Tun Said Keruak, Chairman of the GRS Government Backbenchers Club, guest speaker Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad and GRS state assemblymen were present.
According to Bung, who is also State Works Minister, forming a stable administration necessitates the cooperation of all parties in confronting the country’s crisis.
“At a time of political turmoil, health and economic predicament that Malaysians are facing due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this closeness and cooperation is very crucial to stabilise the country,” he said.
In this regard, Bung noted that in order to meet the people’s expectations of the government, a new strategy must be taken, which includes renouncing old, general norms but not committing to executing them.
“People are now so mature in their thinking and evaluating the actions of the government and elected representatives that they are no longer lulled by announcements of how much money will be allocated to implement development projects, but expect immediate action in getting the job done,” he said.
Bung admitted that Sabah is far behind in terms of infrastructure development, health, education and other areas, and he spoke out loudly in the Dewan Rakyat to demand that the Federal Government pay attention and take immediate action on the issues and rights of the people of Sabah, particularly in the area of development.
