Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Health Department (JKNS) started the Covid-19 Children Immunisation Programme (PICKids) in five specialist hospitals, Thursday, with 23,578 children aged between five and 12 having registered in MySejahtera to receive it.
The five centres are the Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital, Duchess of Kent Sandakan Hospital, Keningau Hospital, Lahad Datu Hospital and Tawau Hospital.
JKNS Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin (pic) said the expansion of pediatric vaccination in centres (PPVs) would be increased throughout Sabah starting Saturday.
“JKNS continues to provide 251 PPV health facilities in Sabah which consists of government and private hospitals as well as clinics providing vaccination services such as boosters, children’s vaccines, second dose and first dose.
“Parents and guardians are urged to register children in their care through the MySejahtera application using the MyKid document or Birth Certificate,” she said in a statement.
Dr Rose Nani said implementation of PICKids in Sabah would be done through walk-ins, Public PPV, “offsite PPV”, outreach activities to rural areas and carrying out the programme in schools as vaccination is free to Malaysians and non-citizens.
She advised parents and guardians to ensure that children take food before being vaccinated.
“The child should wear a sleeveless shirt or pants that can be folded easily because the injection is given on the upper arm or on the thigh. JKNS advises parents and guardians to give paracetamol to children if they have a fever after vaccination with a dose according to their respective body weight,” she said.
