Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor said he has directed the police to heighten security in light of the upcoming Philippine presidential election.
He wanted the police to monitor the situation since the issue of the Philippines' claim over Sabah would always be a hot topic used by election candidates to gain support from voters.
“The heat from the Philippines presidential election that will be held on May 9, 2022, needs to be monitored closely by our police, especially the Special Branch,” he said in a statement.
Hajiji also directed the State Secretary to look into a land application to build a new base for the marine police in the city and for a General Operations Force base in Nabawan.
