Watford manager Roy Hodgson has admitted it will be feel weird cheering against Crystal Palace when the two sides meet on Wednesday.

Hodgson was in charge of Palace for four years before leaving in the summer.

He recently replaced Claudio Ranieri at Vicarage Road and is now looking forward to facing his former club.

"It's going to be a special match because my four years at Crystal Palace were very special, as I've said on many occasions," said Hodgson. "So many of the players that will be playing against us are players that I worked with during the course of those four years, many of them the whole spell. So it will be strange to be lining up on the other side, wishing them harm and wishing us well.

"There's never any sentiment. You work for the football club that are paying your wages and the club that rely upon you to get a result for their team to earn your money, so you can't have sentiment.

"There's going to be lots of occasions, and it will happen more and more, where managers do come up against former clubs and they do come up against former players. In fact, it's very rare I play a Premier League game, either with Palace or even more so now here we with Watford, where there are players on the opposing team that I've known well and worked with.

"But this one, it's a special occasion, not least of all because of our table position and the need for us to try and get results."
