KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily caseload has increased drastically with 5,566 new infections today, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.
The health director-general added that this brings the cumulative number of cases to 2,876,324.
Today’s caseload shows a stark increase from yesterday’s recorded cases of 4,774.
Nonetheless, the nation also recorded 3,187 recoveries, making the total recovered cases 2,787,190.
He added that of the new cases reported today, 113 are in intensive care units while 59 of them require respiratory assistance.
“Among the 5,566 cases recorded today, 51 (0.9%) involved patients in Categories 3, 4, and 5, while 5,515 (99.1%) involved patients in Categories 1 and 2,” he said.
The nation has seen a total of 6,434 clusters since the beginning of the pandemic, including seven new clusters detected today.
The number of clusters that have ended is at 6,116, while 318 remain active.
While the nation records a national Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) of 1.15, the statement noted that Kedah registered the highest rate at an Rt of 1.17.
“For those who are unvaccinated but have yet to be infected with Covid-19, you are among those who are at high risk of contracting the virus.
“The Health Ministry advises such groups to immediately register themselves for Covid-19 vaccinations,” the health director-general urged. – The Vibes, February 1, 2022
