KOTA KINABALU: About 13 per cent of Sunday’s new cases involved unvaccinated children below 11, said State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“Infection cases among small children are a bit high,” he said in a statement, Sunday.

The State recorded 3,891 additional cases, Sunday, with 189 of them being children below 5 while 329 were unvaccinated children between 5 and 11.

“It is highly recommended that parents and school management take the necessary steps to reduce the risk of infection in young children, especially those who are not yet eligible for vaccination.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, 99.74 per cent of the new cases are in Category 1 and 2, while four in Category 3, four in Category 4 and two in Category 5.

Masidi also said sporadic infection will be the determining factor for the number of new cases ahead.

“Even though the caseload today (Sunday) is slightly lesser than yesterday’s, it may well be a short reprieve taking into account the high percentage of cases involving sporadic infections,” he said.
