Local police have arrested a former "Ustaz" or a religious teacher at a tahfiz center in the district of Kemaman, Terengganu under the suspicion of committing the act of sodomy on his 14-year-old male student earlier this month.
According to the District Police Chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan, the suspect's immoral act was exposed after the traumatized victim came forward to lodge a report at the Chukai Police Station.
"Apart from the victim, the 23-year-old suspect is believed to have molested several other students at the tahfiz's hostel and they have also lodged a police report," he added. According to Hanyan, the suspect has been terminated from his service by the hostel's management and has since then fled to Pekan, Pahang.
However, the police managed to track him down and he was shortly arrested in Pekan, Pahang at 11 PM last Monday and is currently remanded for a week. "The suspect is on remand from Tuesday to February 15th to complete the investigation process regarding sodomy and obscenity incidents committed against all victims.
"We request the cooperation of the students' parents to come forward to lodge a police report if they have any information related to this case," he said.
