Former Norwich City and Preston North End boss Alex Neil is taking over at Sunderland.

The League One club were unable to lure former boss Roy Keane to the hot seat.

According to Sky Sports, Keane turned down the job after talks between both parties did not progress to his liking.

Neil, who was last working at Preston in March, did take Norwich to the Premier League in 2015.

It is unclear whether Neil will sign a long-term contract, or only take charge until the end of this season.
