17 Covid-19 cases linked to CNY gathering in S’wak village

MIRI – More than a dozen Covid-19 cases have been traced to a Chinese New Year gathering held in a village in the state capital of Kuching.

As of today, 17 people have tested positive and are now in the Kg Semeba cluster.

The State Disaster Management Committee said the infections came about during the CNY dinner and gathering in a village house.

“They have been taken to the Sarawak General Hospital and quarantine centres. 

“The index case has a history of travelling to Kuala Lumpur.

“He came back to Kg Semeba on January 31 and had a CNY family gathering on February 1.

“He fell ill on February 5 and tested positive when he went to a clinic for a check-up,” the committee said in a statement.

Active tracing is being carried out among residents in the affected area.

Sarawak today recorded 184 new infections, of which Kuching has 79, Miri (39), Sibu (28), Lundu (10) and other districts with less than 10 cases each.
