Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has explained signing permanently Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The striker had been on-loan from Mainz before being bought outright.

Vieira said, "JP showed his determination in the last couple of months. If you look what he has been doing and his age he is a good signing for the club. He has to take the opportunity to show his talent and do well for the football club."

Vieira has also welcomed James McArthur back to training.

He added: "He's a really important player on and off the field. He has experience and a good character. He's a competitor and we miss him on the field. To have him in training is good and if there's no issues he will be back for the next game."
