Kota Kinabalu: At a recent webinar on “Thinking the Unthinkable – Decisive Action in the South China Sea,” moderated by Prof Dr Adam Leong from the National Defence University of Malaysia, three speakers – Emeritus Prof Carlyle A. Thayer of the University of New South Wales, Herizal Hazri of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia and Dr Adina Kamarudin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, presented their cases.

Blaming “the elephant in the room” China, US citizen Prof Carlyle A. Thayer presented a paper on “A Malaysian Strategy of Pre-emption” in which he called for the Malaysian authorities to “report foreign vessels illegally operating in Malaysia’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).”
