Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has opened up regarding the fitness of defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese right-back was absent for their last Premier League game, a disappointing 0-0 against Burnley.

Arteta has also revealed that Tomiyasu was suffering with an injury issue in their loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.

"Tomi had an injury and we didn't have anybody to play in that position against Liverpool," Arteta said after the Burnley game.

"He needs to recover and look after himself, to try and be available as quick as he can.

"He will be out for a few weeks."

However, speaking before facing Wolves on Thursday, Arteta said: "He's there.

"He had a recurring injury in the same place, so we had to be careful with him, but he's been training hard.

"Let's see if he's available for Thursday [Premier League clash against Wolves]."
