Kota Kinabalu: Urbanites in Sabah were urged to be vigilant in public and social gatherings as sporadic infections were on the rise in populous areas, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
On Saturday, Kota Kinabalu recorded a spike of 1,229 cases, pushing Sabah’s caseload to an all-time high of 4,107, which was attributed to sporadic infections.
“Symptomatic cases (sporadic infections) are the main contributor with 2,252 cases which is 55 per cent of the caseload. 681 of Kota Kinabalu’s cases are symptomatic, which is 55.4 per cent.
“The rate of sporadic infections is very high in districts recording three-digit cases, such as Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Penampang, Papar and Lahad Datu. These places are densely populated urban areas and centres of social activities and business activities.
“Residents living in this area are asked to be careful when in public or when attending social events. Avoid being in crowded places. Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” he said in a statement, Saturday.
