Newcastle United have moved out of the bottom three with an enormous 3-1 win over Everton at St. James' Park.

It was a thoroughly deserved win for Eddie Howe's side despite going down first after Jamal Lascelles' own goal towards the end of the first half.

Toon got their own piece of luck only a minute later when Everton defender Mason Holgate by putting the ball into his own net.

Ryan Fraser put Newcastle in front after half-time when he poked in following an electrifying run from Allan Saint-Maximin.

Kieran Trippier sealed the victory with ten minutes remaining thanks to a brilliant 25-yard free-kick.

Bruno Guimaraes came on as a last minute substitute for Joe Willock, who was excellent throughout the match.

Both Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek were introduced from the bench but they had little impact on fired up Newcastle side.

The Tyneside club are now in 17th on the table, one point behind Everton who have a game in hand.

"It is a big result for us because it was back-to-back wins," Howe told BT Sport after the game.

"Consecutive wins in the Premier League are rare - they can change your status and elevate the club.

"We have to stay calm and focus on the next game.

"I think we are in a better place, but football has a way of twisting and turning, so we are not getting ahead of ourselves, we know how tough this league can be."
