West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan's intervention has assured the club of a major payday via Declan Rice.

The Daily Mail says Sullivan's insistence on giving the club a unilateral option to extend the contract of every player by 12 months is set to earn the Hammers tens of millions this summer.

Star man Rice agreed to give the club the option to extend by an extra year when he signed his latest deal in 2018, meaning the England midfielder will effectively have three years left on his deal at the end of the season when West Ham are anticipating a bidding war for his services.

Rice has made it clear he will not sign an extension, but the extra 12 months means West Ham are well placed to demand in excess of £100million amid strong interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

The new two-and-a-half-year contract signed by Michail Antonio last month also gives West Ham the option to extend by a further year, meaning they can retain him until 2025 if they wish.
