Tenom: The body of a 19-year-old local, who went missing while fishing in the Padas River last Wednesday, was found on Friday.
The victim, from Kampung Pangi, here, was found by a search party around 1pm some 10km from where he was reported missing.
Keningau (Zone 4) Fire and Rescue Department Chief Yuszaimi Hairrul Azwan Juatan said the Tenom Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 10.13am Friday and deployed six members led by Operations Officer Wilfred Sulai to the scene. He said six police personnel, five Civil Defence Force (APM) members and some 30 villagers also joined the search operation.
“According to the caller, the victim came to his house around 5pm on Wednesday to borrow a kayak for the purpose of fishing in the Padas River,” he said, adding the victim failed to return home since and search efforts had been carried out by the villagers since Thursday.
Yuszaini said the Fire and Rescue personnel lifted the body to the riverbank and onto a train before handing it to the police for further action. The operation ended at 3.20pm.
