Covid-19: 13,994 new cases reported Tuesday — Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 — Malaysia recorded new Covid-19 cases above the 10,000 mark for three consecutive days with 13,944 cases reported as of noon today compared with 11,034 cases yesterday, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the latest development brought the cumulative Covid-19 cases to 2,939,198. The last time Malaysia recorded more than 13,000 cases was on September 26, last year (13,104).

Dr Noor Hisham, via his official Twitter account, said that 13,871 new cases today (99.48 per cent) were in categories one and two while 73 cases (0.52 per cent) in categories three, four and five.

He added that category one recorded 3,942 cases or 28.27 per cent; category two (9,929 cases or 71.21 per cent); category three (54 cases or 0.39 per cent); category four (11 cases or 0.08 per cent) and category five (eight cases or 0.05 per cent).

Meanwhile, he said the country’s infectivity rate (Rt) was at 1.32, compared with 1.27 yesterday with Sabah and Perlis recording the highest Rt value of 1.54 followed by Sarawak (1.48) and Terengganu (1.36).
