Bursa opens higher amid Russia-Ukraine peace talks

KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened higher today as bargain hunting activities ensued, taking its cue from the overnight Wall Street performance as investors cheered the positive developments from peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 1.86 points to 1,585.28 from 1,583.42 at yesterday’s close.

The barometer index opened 2.13 points higher at 1,585.55.

On the broader market, gainers led losers 192 to 123, while 193 counters were unchanged, 1,784 were untraded and 88 others suspended.

Total turnover stood at 2.40 billion worth RM1.87 billion.

Meanwhile, the ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today, as the greenback retreated amidst the risk-on mode in the United States’ equity market, said an analyst. 

At 9am, the local currency strengthened to 4.2060/2100 against the greenback, compared to 4.2120/2155 at yesterday’s close. – Bernama, March 30, 2022
