Chelsea have been rocked by the news that Three has pulled out of its sponsorship agreement with the club for the moment.

The British telecommunications and internet service provider has reacted to the news that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's assets have been frozen by the British government.

The result is that Chelsea are in financial limbo, while Abramovich cannot sell the club unless he can guarantee he will get no proceeds from the sale.

"We have requested Chelsea football club temporarily suspend our sponsorship of the club, including the removal of our brand from shirts and around the stadium until further notice," a statement from Three reads.

"We recognise that this decision will impact the many Chelsea fans who follow their team passionately.

"However, we feel that given the circumstances, and the Government sanction that is in place, it is the right thing to do."
