Newcastle United reportedly want to follow the example set by Manchester City in terms of their path forward.

The Magpies are owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, through a consortium.

While Newcastle have already spent big in January, and will likely do so in future windows, The i states the ownership group wants to establish the team as a global presence in football and other sports.

That may include taking the City Football Group model, of having various sister teams in other countries.

Those teams can serve as subsidiaries for youth players, integrating new signings, trialing coaches and future managers, and furthering the Newcastle brand.

Another network the ownership likes is the Red Bull network, which includes Leipzig and Salzburg, along with Red Bull's impact on other sports such as Formula One.
