
BELURAN: A 45-year-old local went missing while bathing in Sungai Labuk, Kg Bauto, Telupid, after being swept away by strong currents, on Sunday.
His body was discovered on Monday (pic) some 600 metres from where he went missing.
Idham Olah was bathing in the river with three other companions when the 11.30am incident occurred, according to District Police Chief Supt Kasim Muda.
Before drowning, the victim cried out for help. Due to the powerful currents, his friends were unable to save him.
One of them dialled MERS999 for assistance, prompting a team from the Beluran Fire and Rescue Department to the scene at 1.30pm.
Teams from the Telupid Police Station and the Civil Defence Force also joined in the search on Sunday.
The body of the victim was discovered about noon on Monday, 600 metres from where he was last seen.
The deceased was taken to the Beluran Hopsital for an autopsy and further investigation.
