PENAMPANG: The formalisation of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration reflects the hopes of Sabahans who have always wanted a solid Sabah-centric political stability in the State.

Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star) Vice President Kenny Chua said although the ruling coalition now is known as GRS-Barisan Nasional, the whole thing has come together to show that the state political leaders are united towards making Sabah a progressive State under the “Sabah Maju Jaya” vision.

“Sabahans have always wanted their own brand of politics; one that sincerely fights for their rights and future.

“Ideally, their choice of political platform is the local parties. But beyond this local-party sentiment, the coalition represents Sabahan leaders who are committed to making Sabah great.

“So, from what I gather, most people see this development as a positive way forward to a better political future for the State,” he said after attending a blood donation campaign organized by Parti Solidariti Tanahairku Penampang.

When GRS was formally registered recently, its Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also Sabah Chief Minister, described it as a “historic development” to fulfil people’s request for the coalition to move as a political entity that is legitimate and official and also unite parties that share a common struggle for the State and its people.

Hajiji announced that he agreed with the recent proposal by Sabah BN Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin that the State Government be known as GRS-BN administration.

According to Chua, the political development is an important chapter for Sabah as no one party is enjoying a majority in the State and country.

“What the people want is to see our Sabahan leaders are together in fighting for Sabah; their rights especially. This GRS-BN unity in Sabah forms a formidable political force and it gives the hope for a stronger political stability in Sabah,” Chua said.

On Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s statement that his party was willing to work with any political coalition that wins the people’s mandate after the 15th general election, Chua said what is important is that all must share a common agenda for Sabah and Sabahans.

“As long as all the local parties are united, we’ll become a formidable political force. Although we have our differences, we must put them aside for a greater good for Sabah and Sabahans,” he said.

He reminded that Sabahans will always question what their leaders have been doing in developing Sabah as a progressive State, where everyone can have a share of its economic progress.

“Now that they see the leaders are on the same page, I believe it gives them the assurance that our state is on the right track toward achieving its goals as set in the ‘Sabah Maju Jaya’ vision. They want the leaders to articulate their aspiration, be able to create opportunities so they can make their lives better,” said Chua.

He added there is so much unfinished business when it comes to developing the State and political disunity will only take no one anywhere.

“For Sabah, it’s all about political team work.”

“When the team is strong, we can be champions. We can make Sabah great and attractive to investors,” Chua suggested.
