BEAUFORT: Only two sports events were held in conjunction with the Malaysian Family Festival in Weston, namely the cycling and strongman in the weightlifting event.

A spokesman for the organisers said this when met here on Saturday and he said that although the organisers cancelled the programme, they had to continue with the sports activities.

The sports activities were held for one day and did not involve the main organiser.

However, the scheduled events must also be held because of the large number of participants and fees have been received from participants so that they will be not disappointed.

“We have to use our own funds without involving funds from any party to meet the needs of organising events that have been arranged in advance,” he said.

The cycling and strongman events received encouraging response as nearly 200 people participated in them.

The Malaysian Family Festival may have been cancelled but due to the strength of spirit they managed to organise it even if only for a day. Many events were cancelled such as boat races, volleyball, fishing and stalls as well as a cultural night.
