Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says Aaron Ramsdale has been 'exceptional' since the day he arrived in north London.

Ramsdale was signed from Sheffield United last summer as competition for Bernd Leno.

But the Englishman has quickly become a mainstay and leader in Arteta's team, even earning praise from Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers after the Gunners' victory at the Emirates last weekend.

"Well, first thanks to Brendan for thinking that way and I think Aaron has to take those words to give him confidence and support in what he's doing," Arteta said.

"I always said he's been exceptional since the day we signed him, not only on the pitch, but what he transmitted, what he brought to the building, to the club, outside with his character and personality and that's the kind of people that we want to bring to the club.

"You can see the understanding and the chemistry that he has with some of those (other English players in the squad).

"The fact that they knew each other for many years, that is always helpful and that speeds up the process of any adaptation when it's always difficult at a new club."
