THE Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will be registered to ensure the cooperation between the parties that support the State Government can continue to be strengthened, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor.
The GRS Chairman said this was also the wish of the parties under the GRS, which comprises Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).
“We must have an officially registered political coalition. With this coalition, cooperation between the parties that support the current State Government will be stronger,” he said after handing over financial aid to victims of the fire in Kampung Landung Ayang in a ceremony held at the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Tun Mustapha in Kudat on Feb 26.
Hajiji also welcomed the intention of the new Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (PKDM) led by Datuk Peter Anthony to join or support GRS.
However, he said, any decision must have the support and backing of the existing ruling parties.
“So regarding the intention of the party led by Peter to join or support GRS, we welcome it. This is our goal for political stability in Sabah so that we can focus on developing the State.
“We have just been given the mandate to rule the State and we are about four years away (from the next state election) so our efforts should be focused on development, the economy and our people. We welcome it, but whatever it is, GRS is a coalition of parties and therefore whatever we do or decide, must get the support and backing from all our friends,” he added.
Anthony, who was a former Vice-President of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), left the party in December last year and expressed his intention to form a new pro-GRS party.
GRS was jointly formed by PN, BN and PBS after the 16th Sabah State Election (PRN16) in 2020.
