Watford star Joao Pedro is helping Roy Hodgson with his multi-lingual dressing room.

The young Brazilian winger has helped recent signing Samir integrate with his new teammates and coach.

And Hodgson has praised Pedro for his maturity and leadership.

"I've been impressed by his intelligence and by the fact that he is mature enough to take on that role," said Hodgson. "We can get by with Samir without him as well because of course we have an Italian sporting director who is always in the meetings and he can take on that role, or even I can if necessary, but it's been good.

"With Samir, when we split the squad it's good just to put those two together so Joao Pedro can whisper to make certain everything being said is understood. We do the same thing with one or two of the French speaking people who maybe at the moment still feel they need more time to improve their English.

"In the meetings, for example, we have someone sitting alongside them to make sure the translation is there and I can almost go to some of these players, bring them in individually and go through things with them and I'm enjoying the chance to use one of my languages which have been decaying over the years."
