England coach Gareth Southgate says he can understand Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha committing to Ivory Coast.
Zaha played for Southgate with England at youth level before switching allegiences.
"He felt like playing for Ivory Coast, and I fully understand that," said Southgate.
"It's hard to say what his role would have been with us."
England meet Ivory Coast in a friendly on Tuesday night.
