Kota Kinabalu: An inter-club football tournament organised by Sabah Football Association (Safa) may take place later this year.
Safa President Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin announced this following a meeting with Safa Local Competition Committee led by its Chairman, Azman Mastar on Wednesday.
“The Committee is in the process of organising the tournament which is most likely to be held in July barring any foreseen circumstances.
“There will be further discussion at the Supreme Council before the date is finalised.
“Personally, this tournament is very good and it will give an opportunity to club-level teams from all over the State to compete with each other,” he said.
He added that the Safa Cup tournament is also on the cards later this year in line with their plans to develop the sport in all the districts.
Meanwhile, the opening day of the Sabah Cup Grand Finals saw Tuaran edge Putatan 1-0 and Pitas drew 1-1 with Membakut in Group A while in Group B, Keningau beat Libaran 3-0 and Tawau defeated Telupid 3-1.
